Happy Birthday!

I guess now would be a good time to update this blog. In about 30 minutes, I will be 34 years old. So why am I here updating this blog and not out celebrating? It's kinda sad actually. Well without going into much details, currently I'm out of work and to top it of, I'm also away from my family. Actually other than that, all my buddies are all out of town now. I'll probably get some birthday wishes from friends through Facebook and that would be probably be the highlight of my birthday this year, which sounds really sad and pathetic.

The only thing I wish right now, I hope I will be able to celebrate my little girls 1st birthday which is on the 4th next month. Circumstances have really made it difficult for me to be together with family right now. I can only hope it will turn for the better soon.

Well, if you are reading this, I wish you won't have to go through what I'm going through now, and have a wonderful birthday. Happy Birthday in advance!

Oh! by the way, this would probably be a better highlight for my birthday!

PS: I hope my wife won't kill me for this!

WTF! So this is Human Rights?

Look at the picture, the part that is highlighted is titled "Perjuangan HAK ASASI MANUSIA, Antara Agama Tanpa Kebebasan dan Kebebasan Tanpa Agama". The translation in English is "The Fight for HUMAN RIGHTS between Religion without freedom and freedom without religion". Now read the article here article

So what's the point? OK, so I'm a Malaysian with Chinese heritage, a Malaysian Chinese. If according to the article is true then I'm a product of a “cunning and evil” conspiracy. Isn't that just great?

So your fighting for your own human rights, that's all good, but when you put a banner there that says fighting for human rights and come out saying your own racial rights, where's the human in that? Are the rest of us not humans or lesser human beings?

A Beautiful rendition of "Fields of Gold"

Saw and heard this song and thought it was really beautiful rendition of Stings "Fields of Gold".

WTF - 9 Month Old Boy Accused of Murder?

9 Year Old Boy Accused of Murder in Pakistan
9 Year Old Boy Accused of Murder
I thought it was some sort of "Chucky" nightmare killer but does that look like a face of murderer to you? I don't think so. There is just something very wrong with the police and judicial system there in Pakistan. Apparently the boy was even fingerprinted and even went to court. He is even expected to return to court on a later date, and I'm guessing so that the charges to be dropped. Totally absurd!

Another thing I just want to point is, isn't there some sort of protection for minors for their pictures not to be shown to public? (of course I'm guilty of showing it here in my blog) The coverage of the news probably just got too big I guess.

Someone Should Get This Guy a Free iPhone

iPhone 5

What would you do if you had found a phone on the street? Not just any phone but a smart phone like say an iPhone. For the person who'd lost the phone, chances are slim you'd get it back. I've had the unfortunate luck to have lost my phones, once in a DJ concert (in Manila) and a month later after getting a replacement, lost the phone in a night club (in Malaysia). To me Jenny Roberts Dodge is one very lucky lady. She lost her iPhone and managed get it back. Not only did she get her phone back, but she also found some surprising videos of the guy who found her phone that had dropped it off at the bar where Jenny would eventually track her phone to.

Rant: What the hell did I just read?

I was going to write about some of the tech news that I think will have a huge impact on peoples lives but after reading an article via a Facebook post I was so pissed off and annoyed that I just couldn't continue on doing the research articles on the tech news.

MH370 One Week On And Still No Plane
Today at about 2:15PM, the Malaysian Prime Minister, Najib Razak, held a news conference on the MH370 incident. For those who had been following closely the news of the incident, the updates presented here might not be new, as there were already unconfirmed reports swirling on the Internet. It is however a confirmation to some that the MH370 incident is a plane hijacking. You can watch the entire press conference here which is more than 13 minutes long. For a brief summary of the press conference, continue on the jump.

It's All About The Selfie

Group Selfie With Baby Charlize
I prefer group selfies
Did you know the word "Selfie" is not in the dictionary? Well, it's not in the Oxford English Dictionary, not yet anyway. But it is in the Oxford Dictionaries Online. The word "selfie" was also the Word of the Year 2013 and interestingly was not in the dictionary before this.

Now according to the dictionary, a selfie is a photograph that one has taken of oneself, usually with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media site. Now, if you've got any photos of yourself still somewhere and you haven't uploaded it to site like Facebook or Twitter, it's technically not a selfie. So go ahead and upload those selfies now.

According to the leading authority for the English language, Oxford Dictionaries, the word can be credited to the Australians. The earliest mention it seems, was in 2002 in a Australian online forum.
2002 ABC Online (forum posting) 13 Sept.

“Um, drunk at a mates 21st, I tripped ofer [sic] and landed lip first (with front teeth coming a very close second) on a set of steps. I had a hole about 1cm long right through my bottom lip. And sorry about the focus, it was a selfie.”. Referenced from http://blog.oxforddictionaries.com/2013/11/word-of-the-year-2013-winner/

Raja Bomoh (shaman king) in a ritual to find MH370 in KLIA
In one of the weird news in the MH370 incident few days ago, a shaman (Raja Bomoh) had visited KLIA to perform a ritual to look for the missing plane. The ritual performed has raised a lot of anger among Malaysians online with various re-enactments of the ritual in videos and images mocking the ritual.

Below is just one of the trolled image.

So Chocolate Bar! That is what young 7 year old Dylan Siegel uses to describe what's awesome. It's also the title of his book, written by him, to raise money to save his best friend, Jonah Pournazarian. Jonah has a rare liver disease, GSD 1B (GSD = Glycogen storage disease), which has no cure.

Dylan's goal of raising $1 million has now reached more than $500,000.00. All the money raised will be used fund a research lab at University of Florida, where GSD expert Dr. David Weinstein is working on seeking a cure for GSD. You can learn more about the GSD research by following this video link.

Movie Review: Need For Speed (2014)

Need for Speed movie title image with Aaron Paul and Imogen Poots, and a Shelby Mustang car
Need for Speed 2014

Like many Malaysians, especially those living abroad, the MH370 incident has been a hot topic to follow closely these few days. From hearing reports of stolen passports used by passengers on board, revelations of families still being able to ring the passengers, to seeing shamans (witch doctor) performing rituals in KLIA to locate the missing plane, I was thinking, I probably needed a short break from the MH370 incident. So just to clear my mind a little, I decided to watch the racing game franchise inspired, "Need for Speed".

My Blog Journey: Intro

Introduction

Today would mark the 1st week of my blogging experience and it's been quite an interesting week. There were quite a few things that I had to learn and struggle with to set up this blog and it's still a big learning process for me, even now.

They were many of times over the course of setting up this blog, I had to search and go through many places for solutions to some problems that I encountered like why my post were not showing proper thumbnails in Facebook, or how do I get Google to index my site and how do I do a show/hide spoiler paragraph text. In here, "My Blog Journey" I hope to document the those things that I've learned while blogging and hopefully what I put here can help those who are starting their own blogs or those who are just looking for solutions that they might need in their blogs.

Just to be clear, I am not an expert blogger or computer programmer, I do have the basic knowledge of computer programming (basic). So things like C/C++, Java, HTML, CSS, PHP and a few more other programming language acronyms are not new to me, but I still prefer "English". So please forgive me if I put out a solution that did not work for you (hopefully it wont screw up your blog too badly) after you tried it. If you ask me for help, I'll try to help you if it's something I can do for you.

The Plot Thickens: Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 Missing

Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777-200 MH370 Where is 239
Where is MH370?
I'm sure many of us have been following the news about MH370 since yesterday. This is incident, as it is unfolding now, is probably something all of us wouldn't want to be tuning in to during the weekends, we'd rather be doing other things right now. Sad as it may seem, it is human nature that we do tune in this story, be it curiosity or because we care. Though it's been more than 36 hours that MH370 has been missing, I still hope and pray for those on board MH370.

WTF - LG G Flex Weird Ad

LG G FLEX
If you haven't seen it, that's the LG G Flex, a curved shaped phone that has self healing properties. I think the phone itself is pretty good to attract people to buy it but if I had seen their below, I'm not too sure if I would still be interested. You need to watch it to the end.

News - MAS Flight MH370 KL-Beijing Lost Contact

Malaysia Airlies Logo in bfmk.blogspot.com

Malaysia Airlines had confirmed that flight MH370 had lost contact with Subang Air Traffic Control at 2:40am today. The plane departed from Kuala Lumpur at 12:41am and was scheduled to land at Beijing International Airport at 6:30am.

The flight was carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew,  comprised of 14 nationalities, 2 of them infants. More than half of 227 passengers were Chinese nationals.

The last update from from MAS at 7:30am, had confirmed that the Search and Rescue Team had been activated. Updates directly from MAS can be found here, MAS Flight MH370 updates page.

Now I can't remember the last time I heard or saw any news about major air disaster involving larger plane in Malaysia or specifically Malaysia Airlines but doing a quick search online yielded results such as the MH684 crash in 1983 and MH653 crash, that was hijacked. With the current MH370 incident, this could probably be the first air disaster for MAS involving a Wide-body aircraft.

Let's pray that everyone on MH370 are safe and will be found.

A Good Example Of How NOT To Ask A Question

This video has been circulating around for quite some time now. It features the former Singapore Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew in a dialogue session during 7th anniversary of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy. In this particular clip, a Filipino student had prepared a question for the former Prime Minister. If you haven't seen it, click on the video to watch, and listen carefully to what the student was trying to ask.

Mind-Blowing 01 - 13 Year Old Builds A Nuclear Reactor

According to Dictionary.com, the word mindblowing or mind-blowing:-

mind-blow·ing

  [mahynd-bloh-ing]
adjective Slang.
1.
overwhelming; astounding: Spending a week in the jungle was a mind-blowing experience.
2.
producing a hallucinogenic effect: a mind-blowing drug.

Today I thought I'd start by writing a more structure approach to some topics, news or events. These would be things that I find "Mindblowing" and I'll be doing this like a regular topic in this blog.

So first off, I'd like to start with the name Jamie Edwards. You might want to remember that name. He's 13 years old.

Radioactive Symbol & Nuclear Power Plant image in bfmk.blogspot.com

Yesterday, Jamie Edwards, an English 13 year old, had successfully built a nuclear reactor for a science project. According to his blog, the reactor had achieved fusion yesterday at 11:30 am. Mind-blowing!

Click Here To Smell The Bacon

What if I told you could smell bacon just by using your IPhone? No actual bacon cooking involved. Yeah, sounds weird to me but have a look at the video.

If you were a huge bacon fan this would be a dream come true. While for me, the idea of waking up and smelling bacon in the morning doesn't excite me as much as smelling fresh brewed coffee.

Rent A Friend Anyone?

Friends for rent in bfmk.blogspot.com
Friends for rent?

Ash Wednesday! (do we greet people "Happy Ash Wednesday"?) I wanted to write about Ash Wednesday celebration here in the Philippines (and I was already doing some research about it) but I changed my mind when read an article on Business Insider about a new business start-up where you can pay to rent a friend by the hour. If you were like me, you'd be reading that twice.

1st Time Again - "Hello World"

My first blog! again?! When I think about it, it took me probably more than 20 years to come to this point where I finally "blog" on the Internet. I still remember back when I was using an Intel i386 (or was it i486) computer which probably had a 14.4k internal dial-up modem, then upgrading it to a USRobotics 56k Sportster modem.
US Robotics 56K Modem in BFMK Blog

Can you imagine dialing-up to connect to the Internet? I could recall how these modems would sound when trying to connect to the ISP and it was quite noisy using these modems, and yet something memorable, well at least to me anyway.
