Click Here To Smell The Bacon

What if I told you could smell bacon just by using your IPhone? No actual bacon cooking involved. Yeah, sounds weird to me but have a look at the video.

If you were a huge bacon fan this would be a dream come true. While for me, the idea of waking up and smelling bacon in the morning doesn't excite me as much as smelling fresh brewed coffee.

Previously there were news about adding smell to enhance the viewer experience in rides or movie cinemas (such as 4DX experience by CJ4DX) but what Oscar Mayer, the American food company behind this, is bringing the experience to a more personal level.

The institute that came with this, OMIFAB or Oscar Mayer Institute For the Advancement of Bacon (yes, you read that right!), created an alarm app and device that will transform your Iphone into a "Bacon Scent Alarm Clock" should you wish to.

That will be how the app will look like on the Iphone and if your want to try out the alarm app, you can download it from Itunes. To get the olfaction experience you will need apply with OMIFAB to get a chance to get the device. Based on the information on the website, it seems it will only be support Apple devices (iOS 7.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.). Too bad for those on Android.

Now you might be surprised to know, the idea of getting smells in enhancing viewer experience in entertainment is not a new one, in fact, there was a system called Smell-O-Vision that was used in a 1960 film, Scent of Mystery, which not surprisingly was the only one time the system was implemented. If you want to explore further, you can click here.

Note: As I said earlier, I'm not too keen of smelling bacon in the morning, but if you do happen to be lucky enough to get device, I'd like to know if it really smells like real bacon.

Bonus: Remember this from Google - Google Nose
